Somit, YMCA is a good bargain near the Sentral KL train station. It's about US$20/night. You get your own room, bath room/shower and staff is friendly. The room rate also includes a breakfast.
All restaurants and train station and buses are in walking distance. Internet cafe's are close by.
St. George in Penang is a nice place to visit. It's an overnight journey from KL by train (you ride to Butterworth and cross the waterways to St. George). Lots of places to eat in St. George.
While in KL check out local transport by commuter trains. Ride the monorail at night, you can see the city lights, light up the city. Ride the fastest train from Sentral KL station to the KL airport, it is non-stop. Malayasians are friendly people. On Fridays, downtown is more congested because of Friday prayers and lunch after worship. Again, people are very friendly and courteous.
Happy travels!
Cheers,
Ernie
