Rajesh Iyer | | HI You can combine 2 places , Dalhousie & Dharamsala,
Take a train till Pathankhot ( trains going to Jammu will halt at Pathankhot ) Reach pathankhot early in the day , probably hire a car or take the HPtourism state bus which is very cost effective.

Mohanram Inbaraj | | Hi
Rajesh is right. To add to it, you can stay at Mcleodganj (10 kms further from Dharamshala) as Dharamshala is quaint little hill station and doesnt have any tourist spots which are all in and around Mcloedganj. Mcleodganj is the seat of the Dalai Lama's govt in exile and the town itself will have a spiritual vibration wherever u go. For stay you can go to Chinar Lodge (www.chinarlodge.com) and they charge Rs. 1000 per day and pretty decent. It is at a walkable distance from the main bazaar. Mganj is also a foodie's paradise and you can go thru my article, if you may be interested - http://in.rediff.com/getahead/2007/apr/04food.htm

Adit Madan | | Taragarh is a place roughly 45 kms from Dharamshala. This place has a heritage property which is just awesome. You can stay there and go to Dharamshala/Mcleodganj for day trips.
Why Taragarh - There arent too many good options for stay in Dharamshala/McLeodgank unless you are looking for a budget stay.
You can contact me for reservations. Thanks! Private Reply to Adit Madan |
