Basab Ghosh | | We are thinking of taking a KSTDC tour (2N 3D) to Ooty and surrounds from Bngalore. Are these tours worth the time spent? Are there better options?
Good budget hotel near KSTDC office?
Any help will be appreciated.Private Reply to Basab Ghosh |

Abhijith Amberker | | Hi,
KSTDC usually offer budget tours. If you are looking for something luxury then this is not the one for you. The advantage with KSTDC tours is that they provide you a complete package of travel, stay & sightseeing. But i feel that its too hectic, as in limited time they try to cover maximum places without giving you enough time to spend in a particular spot.
My personal opinion & with my experience in the travel field, I advise you should travel to ooty by private car & stay in some decent hotels which offers good view from the rooms and ofcourse a good service. There are lot of scenic points in Ooty which will not be covered by group departures, which otherwise you can visit if you go privately.
Thanks,

Amruth Kumar | | Hi Abhijith,
By a strange coincidence ,I've been looking for exactly the same thing as Basab ghosh is( a decent holiday for a family to ooty from bangalore) .
OK, so the KSTDC tours are hectic. I want something leisurly , but not too heavy on the pocket.
What's the best way to go & stay & enjoy Ooty & also go on the famous ooty mettupalayam train, see black thunder , see the botanical gardens . want to be there from may 13th to 15th or 16th.
Will be obliged if you can reply ASAP direct to amruth(at)greatscope( dot ) com or send me a PM.
bye
Amruth

Anuradha Goyal | | Basab,
I have done Ooty / Kodaikanal with KSTDC, and found them reasonable. You do not have to worry about anyhing once you have your tour booked. A guide accompanies you through the tour, who may not tell you much but if you go and strike a conversation with him, he would be helpful. I had a very good experience, as the group had people from 5-6 nationalities and almost all parts of India and we all became good friends by end of the tour. The hotels are not very great, and yes they cover only the popular tourists spots. You can read by detailed experience here: http://anuradhagoyal.blogspot.com/2005/01/travelogue-ooty-kodiakanal.html
